Theories of the early psychological development and implications from that age which are followed up through an individual life span, have reached their full potential in the development of psychodynamic explanations of childhood and have been accepted by neuro – scientific explanations, making connections between neuro – biological, psychical and behavioural manifestations. There are many theoretical concepts of early psychical development which show the complexity of the emotional life of children, their cognitive development, physical activity and environmental interaction. The connection between the child and its caretaker - who is usually the mother, is necessary for survival at an early age, but is also an emotional experience which the child absorbs together with food. Early life experiences with persons from its environment mostly influence the quality of future relationships. Reactions of children and adolescents to stressful situations will depend on their stage of psychological development, constitutional resilience and earlier experiences. Good understanding of early development could help us to have a better understanding of psychical disturbances and disorders which we meet in children, adolescents and adult patients.
