Objective − To present a rare case of osteoid osteoma of the metacarpal bone and to emphasize the importance of correlation of radiological analysis with anamnestic data and clinical findings. Case Report − We reported the case of osteoid osteoma of the metacarpal bone in a 14-year old girl. The patient, a volleyball player, presented with pain in the left hand. At first, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs relieved the pain but over the time it became more intense and was accompanied with swelling. On the basis of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the case was misdiagnosed as a status post-fracture of three metacarpal bones. After inappropriate treatment with physical therapy, the patient’s condition worsened, thus multiple laboratory tests and radiology imaging techniques were performed to achieve the right diagnosis. Diagnosis of osteoid osteoma was finally made by CTscan and appropriate treatment by surgical ablation was performed. Conclusion − Osteoid osteoma rarely occurs in metacarpal bones. Physicians should be aware of the atypical clinical presentation of this benign lesion in the metacarpal bones.

Introduction: Accessory renal arteries play a significant role in kidney and abdominal aorta surgery, and renovascular hypertension. In the published literature, the frequency varies considerably, depending on the size of the sample, the method of examination and the ethnic group. Materials and Methods: The aim of this study is to determine the general frequency of accessory renal arteries, their frequency in relation to gender, the origin and the vascularization area, and to determine the differences in left-right and bilateral distribution. Results and Discussion: CT scans of 1357 patients were retrospectively analyzed. Accessory renal arteries were recorded in 35.5% of patients, with a statistically significant difference in male and female incidence (p<0.05) with a ratio of 1.4 : 1. Accessory arteries occur more commonly unilaterally (p<0.05) than bilaterally with a ratio of 4 : 1. Unilateral accessory renal arteries occur at approximately the same frequency at right and left side 1.1 : 1, without statistically significant differences in frequencies (p>0.05). Of the total number of noticed accessory renal arteries 76.7% was originated from abdominal aorta (AA), 23% from renal artery and 0.3% from CIA, with a ratio of 3.3: 1 : 0.0005. Conclusions: The study showed a relatively high frequency of accessory arteries and described their anatomy in detail, which can be of great importance in surgical interventions on abdominal aorta, kidneys, and in case of kidney transplantation.

Introduction: During the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which lasted from 1992-1995, the functioning of all sectors was disturbed, including the health sector. The priority of the heath sector was treatment and less attention was paid to prevention, and this applies also to the Program of implementation of obligatory immunization, as one of the most important prevention measures. This program was conducted with difficulty and sometimes was completely interrupted because of the lack of necessary vaccines and the inability of adequate maintenance of the cold chain. It was difficult and sometimes completely impossible to bring children to vaccination. Because of these problems, a great number of children stayed unvaccinated so they suffered from vaccine-preventable diseases several years after the war. Materials and methods: This is a retrospective epidemiological study. We analyzed data from January 1994 to July 2014 in Canton Sarajevo, and data about measles outbreak in 2014. Results: In the period from January 1994 to July 2014, 3897 vaccine-preventable diseases were registered in Canton Sarajevo. Among them measles, rubella and mumps were the most frequent. In March 2014, measles outbreak was registered. Almost all cases are unvaccinated (99%) and 43% of all cases are connected with failure of vaccination during the war. Conclusion: During the war, routine immunization program was disrupted in Bosnia and Herzegovina (also in Canton Sarajevo). The consequences are presented as vaccine preventable diseases cases.

Introduction: Drug addiction is one of the most prominent problems in many countries in transition, including Bosnia and Herzegovina. Age limit of drug addiction is shifted to the younger age groups, especially is troubling the increase in number of injection drug users. Our study was aimed to investigate the habits, attitudes and practices related to drug use among young people from the area of Sarajevo city. We can still feel the effects of the war, among which are the most important life without closest relatives, banishment and various types of war and post-war trauma. Goals: To determine the frequency of substance abuse among adolescents; Identify potentially relevant biological, psychological and socio economic characteristics of the adolescents; To explore adolescents attitudes towards drug use; Examine the general level of knowledge of adolescents about drugs and their effects. Material and Methods: The study was conducted on randomized sample of 502 students in two primary and three secondary schools in Sarajevo and Gracanica. To study used survey method. Survey instrument was a self-made questionnaire with the research variables. The obtained data were processed by a computer and statistically correlated. The study is of combined, retrospective, prospective and transversal type. Results: To the question “How many times have you consumed cannabis in the last 30 days” about 6% of the respondents have tried once or twice, while 1.5% use it daily, ecstasy have tried one or two times 2.25%, while 0.5% have daily use. Based on the obtained results it can be concluded that students at schools in Sarajevo consumed drugs 50% more than the children in Gracanica. Analyzing the age at which the subjects consumed the drug for the first time, we came to the conclusion that in the third year of high school only 8% of adolescents have tried any drugs before they turned 15 years. This percentage among eighth graders is about three times higher. Conclusion: Presented research results clearly suggest a strong contamination of the living environment of young people with different types of psychoactive substances. Offer of drugs is extensive and distribution network covers all the places where young people visits, including schools. It is clear that today’s teenagers sooner or later hear about drugs, see, get in touch with a “junkie” and have a chance to take the drugs if they want to. From our research, we found that the following factors: Marital status of parents, employment of parents, the number of family members, type of school and satisfaction with oneself are not crucial for the eventual drug use among young people. While, the biological status of the parents, educational status of parents, financial status of parents, the tendency of parents tobacco and alcohol use, adolescents’ attitude to parents, the harmony of relationships between parents, school performance, positive attitude toward the so-called light drugs, represent significant risk factors for adolescent populations.
