The level of unemployment in the whole region of the Western Balkans is very high considering the average unemployment rate in the European Union. The majority of all citizens, men and women alike, encounter difficulties in the labor market. Single mothers are no exception. The purpose of the study was to investigate the main determine factors that obstacle women – single mothers in particular entering in the labour market. The methodology was a qualitative one, through conducting focus groups with single mothers and in depth interviews with key informants. The results of the study show that single mothers face several difficulties to enter in the labor market that relate mainly to the lack of child care services, adequate employment and welfare policies, effective support services, etc.

The countries of the Western Balkans have achieved significant progress in protecting civic freedoms and political rights, that is, formal democracy. However, the region's performance is lagging behind other consolidated democratic post-communist countries with strong formal institutions. By following the theory of impartiality (Rothstein and Teorell), this paper seeks to contribute to our understanding of citizens' perception of informal institutions in the region, and support for a democratic regime with impartial public administration. We employ a quantitative online survey in three countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia. The findings indicate that citizens consider formal institutions as very ineffective and hence embrace informal institutions as the lesser of two evils. At the same time, citizens would approve of a more equitable political system and hence contribute to democratic consolidation.

Adult education is often described as a ''second chance'' for adults to determine their knowledge level or to acquire new knowledge level or to acquire new knowledge and skills in order to become more more competitive in the labour market. This paper presents the results of empirical research on the awereness of B&H citizens of the importance of adult education, adult education programmes and willingness to participate in those programmes. The results indicate that the majority is aware of the importance of adult education and is ready to participate in existing programmes in order to acquire new skills and knowledge. At the same time, citizens are insufficiently informed about the possibilities of adult education which is mostly manifested throug hesitant attitudes. It is necessary to create an appropriate leagl framework to facilitate the devlopment of adult education at all state levels and to change the current attitude towards this field.
