Uranium in the environment: Methods of detection and data evaluation
The paper considers methods and procedures of uranium (DU) determination in environmental samples: sampling and sampling preparation procedures (environmental samples, human tissue samples), methods of detection (gamma spectrometry, emission spectrometry, X-ray fluorimetry, atomic absorption spectrometry, neutron activation analysis) and data presentation. Sources of errors and Quality Assurance and Quality Control procedures are critically reviewed, specially in the context of data evaluation and environmental risk assessment from DU ammunition used during the NATO attacks in Yugoslavia, in 1999.
