Islam and Australia: Can a Muslim Get Elected to Parliament in a War on Terror?
A non-practising Muslim who stood for Labor in Greenway lost the election, as during the campaign a political leaflet asserted him to be a devout Muslim who is working hard to get a better deal for Islam. An account of the campaign was outlined in a speech to The Sydney Institute on 19 October 2005. The speech also touched on Islam in Australia, and religion as a political issue in 2004.
